While I love to eat bananasin their original form, I much prefer them baked, grilled, whipped, blended, and frozen. I love it when our bananas get so ripe that my kids won’t eat them because they look funny because that is when bananas are at their best–ripe &sweet!

Did you know you can freeze ripe bananas? I do it all the time when I don’tthink I’ll use the bananas before they get too bad. I just unpeel them and stick them in a freezer bag. When I need a banana, I thaw it in a strainer to allow it to drain a bit before using in baked goods. I don’t bother draining if I’m using them for smoothies. You can also freeze in their peel, but I think it’s easier to peel before freezing.

I always put them in the freezer only to throw them out a year later after they’ve become dried out and mangled. Now I see banana oatmeal muffins in my future. Stopping by from SITS.

I just always make the same tired old banana bread. Sometimes I add chocolate chips if I’m feeling adventurous. This list rocks!

I enjoy fresh bananas, but I’m very picky about them being at the perfect level of ripeness. Once they have any brown spots, I prefer them baked. My kids will eat them that ripe, but not hubs and I don’t. I have freezed them for years with excellent results. I also store them in the fridge if I plan to bake with them in a day or so. Even if the skin turns black, the banana is still good inside. Thanks for the list of recipes, Kristia!

I cut mine into pieces, sprinkle with some Fruit Fresh so they don’t brown, then freeze for future use in smoothies. I also stalk the discount produce shelf – sometimes you can get a whole bag of over-ripe bananas for $1 or $2 ! cheap smoothies!
